Weekly GOP radio address: Sen. Hutton says Republican focus will remain on taxpayers and families

https://www.wispolitics.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/230112GOPAddress.mp3 Hi, Senator Rob Hutton here. As the 2023 legislative session gets underway, I want to thank the people of the 5th Senate District for the trust you’ve placed in me. It’s an honor to represent you. This session features plenty of milestones and challenges. Our state’s record $6.9 billion surplus is both, and the pressure to go back to the reckless spending of the past will be immense. But Republicans remain committed to the fiscally responsible budgeting that made that surplus possible in the first place. We have a great opportunity to pass further tax relief and return that

MADISON – Today, Republicans voted to suspend a rule preventing state-licensed counselors and therapists from subjecting youth to so-called “conversion therapy,” a discredited and abusive practice that purports to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.  Sen. Kelda Roys: “‘Conversion therapy’ is child abuse and has no place in Wisconsin. This discriminatory, harmful practice should be banned to protect every child. As Republican legislative leaders have called for good faith efforts to work with Gov. Evers and Democrats, it’s disappointing that one of their first official actions is to use vulnerable children as pawns in their right-wing culture war. “Actions

Catholic Charities Bureau of the Diocese of Superior: Asks court to recognize that it is religious

WASHINGTON – Catholic Charities Bureau of the Diocese of Superior just asked the Wisconsin Supreme Court to affirm that their mission of feeding the poor, helping the elderly, and caring for the disabled is a religious one. Under state law, religious employers in Wisconsin are eligible for an exemption from the state unemployment benefit program if they are operated primarily for religious purposes. But in Catholic Charities Bureau v. Wisconsin Labor & Industrial Review Commission, a Wisconsin appellate court denied Catholic Charities Bureau and four of their subsidiary ministries this exemption. That effectively prevents Catholic Charities Bureau from providing their own benefit program to
