Public trust is the cornerstone of public safety and justice. Once again, that trust has been broken. Tyre Nichols’ murder, after a simple traffic stop, tells us that each city across our nation must do more to ensure that our criminal justice system lives up to the promise of equal treatment under the law, and a fundamental respect for life, especially for our black and brown community members who are continually disparately impacted by fatal encounters with law enforcement. I applaud Chief Barnes’ commitment to 21st Century Policing ideals, establishing hiring and training practices, accountability systems and oversight necessary to help prevent

An economist with Kansas-based Armada Corporate Intelligence says expectations for a coming recession have softened.  Speaking yesterday during a webinar hosted by the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce’s World Trade Association, Chris Kuehl highlighted a “consensus emerging about the possibility of a soft landing” in various global markets.  “As you’re going forward, things don’t look so bad … This is another indicator that we’re not necessarily heading for any sort of really deep decline,” he said. “Real business sales have been climbing since 2020. WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Republicans passed the Strategic Production Response Act to ensure our Strategic Petroleum Reserve is refilled and preserved for national emergencies. The U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve is meant for national emergencies, but Joe Biden has sold almost 40% of our stockpile since taking office. While depleting the Reserve for political purposes, President Biden has also made clear he wants to “eliminate” oil and natural gas and has followed through by halting critical production leases, cancelling the Keystone XL pipeline, and proposing billions in new taxes on American energy producers. These actions make us less prepared for actual emergencies. House Republicans
