COWS report finds 41 percent of Milwaukee workers paid less than $15 per hour

Forty-one percent of all Milwaukee workers are paid less than $15 per hour, according to a new report from a UW-Madison think tank.  In its “Facts from the Frontline” report, COWS highlights the declining share of manufacturing employees making up the region’s workforce, as well as falling union membership and rising income inequality along racial lines.  The liberal-leaning research center interviewed and profiled a number of workers in the area’s service industry and found many are demanding higher wages and more favorable schedules. Rep. Duchow: Bill requiring crime statistics on DPI report cards passes Assembly

Madison, WI – The State Assembly today passed bills on crime prevention and school safety today, including one measure that discloses crime statistics for schools. Currently, there is no standardized, transparent method for school districts to report crimes committed on school property. Samba Baldeh (D-Madison) applauded the announcement of federal standards for PFAS contamination of water.   The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to regulate PFOA and PFOS at a level that can be reliably measured at 4 parts per trillion. (Note: Last year, the Wisconsin Legislature adopted a maximum limit on PFAS in water of 70 parts per trillion.
