Milwaukee-area JFC members disagree on sales tax plan, Brewers stadium funding

The shared revenue bill’s referendum requirement for Milwaukee sales tax increases remain a big sticking point for Republicans and Dems. Rep. Evan Goyke, D-Milwaukee, and Rep. Jessie Rodriguez, R-Oak Creek, during a WisPolitics luncheon at UW-Milwaukee’s Zilber School of Public Health clashed over various provisions in the Republican-proposed shared revenue bill. The measure would allow the city of Milwaukee to temporarily bump its sales tax by 2 percentage points if voters approved the increase. Northwestern Mutual survey shows U.S. adults preparing for possible recession

In a recent national survey, Northwestern Mutual found many respondents are reducing expenses and saving money to prepare for a possible recession.  According to the Milwaukee financial services company’s 2023 Planning & Progress Study, 67 percent of respondents believe the U.S. economy will enter a recession later this year.  Of that number, 33 percent expect it will last one year or less, while 19 percent expect it to extend for more than two years. Wisconsin DATCP: Continues fee holiday for Agricultural Chemical Cleanup Program fund

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) will continue to waive the fee for the Agricultural Chemical Cleanup Program (ACCP). This fee holiday for pesticide and fertilizer licensees, and farmers purchasing fertilizer, will extend through June 2024 for fertilizer sales and through the 2023-24 license year for other licensees. Finalists representing diverse tech-based sectors in Wisconsin’s early-stage economy will present live to judges and others Wednesday, May 31, in Milwaukee as part of the 20th annual Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest. The presentations at the Italian Community Center will be followed immediately by the opening reception for the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference. The 13 contestants emerged from three rounds of judging in the contest organized through the Wisconsin Technology Council, which produces the contest and conference with its partners and sponsors. The competition began in late January with nearly 150 entries; more than 4,600 entries have been received since the contest began in 2004.
