Republican activists today voted against calling for the state party to implement a conflict of interest policy that would ban members of the executive committee from advocating for or representing “the interests of any competing organization.” The nonbinding resolution proposed a series of restrictions for executive committee members, including bans on sharing sensitive party information with a competing organization or unlawfully coordinating with another group.

U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Prairie du Chien, at the state GOP convention today called for unity among Republicans, and “put aside our petty squabbles, or we will lose.”

U.S. Rep. Tony Wied, R-De Pere, at the GOP convention today said Republicans “cannot wait until next year” to start the fight to take over the governor’s office in Wisconsin. 

The Oshkosh Republican often delivers a dose of reality to party activists when he addresses the state convention, and he did again today as he went over what he called a “crushing” defeat in the state Supreme Court race this spring.
