For me, the best evidence of his broadcasting ability was during those long spells between plays when he could fill the airwaves with his ad-libbing. It was then he highlighted his delightful sense of humor. It was in those stretches between plays, or between the wind-ups of pitches that Uecker would join in with his color commentator in the booth, Pat Hughes, and they would become a comedy duo.
