In the closing days of the race, polls showed Biden headed for a comfortable victory with most having him above 50 percent. Surveys were less frequent in 2016, when Hillary Clinton also was seen to be on track for beating Trump. Biden won. Clinton lost. But Biden’s advantage of 0.6 percent is a far cry from the margin suggested by the many polls.

Though Trump improved on his totals from 2016, especially in Florida, it doesn’t appear to be enough to give him the presidency.

Under President Trump’s leadership, the administration worked swiftly with bipartisan members of Congress to enact generous unemployment insurance programs through the CARES Act. Unfortunately for Wisconsinites, however, the administration’s efforts have been hindered by inaction from those in Madison.

Instead of taking wide-ranging actions that do not consider whether businesses are doing what they need to do in order to control the spread of the virus before swiftly shutting them down, Gov. Evers and other leaders should take a more fine-tuned approach that identifies actual sources of outbreaks and addresses them directly.
