For thousands of families across south-central Wisconsin, the end of the school year doesn’t feel like a celebration — it feels like a strain.

As Wisconsin’s largest fully sworn sheriff’s office, we operate with 591 staff and manage nearly 1,000 jail residents across four divisions: field, security, support and administrative services. … Our budget priorities focus on safety and infrastructure.

Wisconsin can choose to invest in children during the years when development is most rapid and intervention is most effective, or we can continue paying far higher costs later through remedial education, mental health services, workforce shortages and other social support. The bill does not disappear. It arrives later, with interest.

Year after year, the wealth of John Menard kept growing. The founder and sole owner of the home improvement chain bearing his name saw his personal net worth grow from $775 million in 1996 to $5.2 billion in 2007, according to Forbes magazine. That grew to $16.6 billion in 2021 and $22.9 billion in 2024.
