Parties file competing briefs in state Supreme Court absentee ballot drop box lawsuit

GOP lawmakers are arguing overturning a 2022 state Supreme Court ruling barring the use of absentee ballot drop boxes would make a “mockery” of the principle calling for justices to follow past precedent. But the state Elections Commission, represented by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, argued that while the doctrine of stare decisis is “fundamental to the rule of law,” adding the 2022 court decision was unsound and should be overturned.
