DC Wrap: Baldwin calls on Menendez to resign; House works to fund the government, but former Speaker Ryan says it’s likely too late

U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, is calling on U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., to resign following his indictment on bribery charges. During comments in his hometown this week, Menendez rejected calls to step down, saying the $480,000 in cash found in his closet was for “emergencies” and had been withdrawn from his personal accounts. He didn’t address the gold bars also found in his home and other details in the indictment, as well as whether he will run again in 2024.

JFC denies DSPS position request, approves GOP tax cut bill

The GOP-run Joint Finance Committee today shot down along party lines the Evers administration’s request for more positions to help process credential requests at the Department of Safety and Professional Services.

JFC also voted 11-4 along party lines on a $3 billion GOP bill seeking to reduce the state’s third-highest income tax bracket while expanding an existing break on retirement income.
