President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the Democratic ticket and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris felt like one of the most promising days in recent political history. Reports that it is the one scenario Donald Trump did not want makes it all the sweeter.
When selfless and truly inspiring acts on behalf of the nation are compiled, this letter from Joe Biden will long register as a shining example of exemplary leadership. It ranks alongside the gracious and powerful concession speech from Albert Gore, Jr. in 2000.
I’m not convinced Harris is the best candidate for the Democrats. However, Biden stepping aside gives the Democrats a chance to put their best step forward. Or, in the case of Harris, at least a better step forward.
Now that Joe Biden has — at long last — dropped out of the race, the Democrats should not rush to select his replacement on the ticket. They’ve got almost four weeks before their convention and they should take that time to get it right.

Surprisingly, the Milwaukee Police Association did an “about face” and dropped their lawsuit blocking the body-worn camera policy.

Getting around the Republican National Convention and its security perimeter can be challenging. Entrances are not always exits. Vehicle checkpoints can be different from pedestrian checkpoints. Some points are far busier than others. Navigating all of this on foot can make for some longer-than-expected detours.
