There hasn’t been a grand strategic look at the University of Wisconsin since the Ice Age, actually since 1971, more than 50 years ago. So it is welcome news that the legislature has created the Legislative Council Study Committee on the Future of the University of Wisconsin System.
To date, even with nine primate sanctuaries across the U.S., including one that is an hour away, the UW refuses to send primates to sanctuaries at all. In the past, UW retired primates to what amounted to a roadside zoo. The horrendous care that ensued is a poor excuse for the UW to simply refuse retirement.
Through his pioneering efforts as a class-conscious undergraduate, Emspak organized fellow University of Wisconsin-Madison student employees. Together, they forced the state to start paying students higher wages decades before other schools across the country did so.
Wisconsin has countless opportunities for our residents and visitors to take advantage of this summer.
In Wisconsin, the overturning of Roe v. Wade sent women back to live under a criminal abortion ban passed in 1849 — 70 years before women had the right to vote.
There is a disconnect between taking an oath “to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic” and trying to unlawfully overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Walker’s lieutenant governor was obviously hoping to gain Donald Trump’s endorsement in the 2022 primary, so declaring Wisconsin’s election rigged. Now less than two years later, Kleefisch is asking us to forget it all.
