The concept that Vladimir Putin is losing his Ukrainian war because he is not winning may seem contrived. But it’s reality.
Republicans are not “defunding” Child Care Counts—– the program is simply expiring as the federal money is exhausted, as intended. At the state level, Wisconsin is investing more in child care than before COVID.
Republicans’ demand that the System spend its surplus to make up for cuts in state aid and tuition freezes have been major contributors to the crisis. Yet, the GOP’s leaders saw fit to cut yet another $32 million from the system because it supports diversity and equity programs.
Devastating climate change is here. Wisconsin has not escaped unscathed.
Evidence shows close family ties makes reentry easier for inmates, keeps their kids healthier and prisons safer.
Milwaukee must do better. There needs to be a sense of urgency that shows up in our planning and ability to scale up to meet an aggressive repair schedule.
The promotion of civil discourse is one of the most urgent actions the La Follette School can take going forward.

The clear winner in the first Republican presidential primary debate was … former President Donald Trump.
Less than 24 hours before Donald J. Trump was to be “proudly” arrested, booked, fingerprinted and have his mug shot taken at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta (in primetime!), eight of the Republicans gathered for the Fox News debate in Milwaukee Wednesday night.
The old GOP playbook of tax cuts, a defense buildup, and a conservative take on cultural issues just won’t cut it anymore. Demographic and cultural changes, increased suburbanization, and the technology revolution are all working against the current Republican Party.
Indeed, while Trump’s Big Lie about the 2020 election may be the issue of the moment, the debate reminded Americans that the original Big Lie of Republican politics was, is, and by all available evidence will continue to be climate denial.
The Republican Debate in Milwaukee is now in the books.
Trump because he had a reported 80 million viewers the same time of his Tucker Carlson interview at the same time as the debate while the debate had only 15 million viewers. Milwaukee and Wisconsin were also winners because the debate was at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee; the same building as the convention next year.
Or should Rebecca Bradley? Her comment was less factual and more scathing.
Let’s face it. The Wisconsin Supreme Court is a hot mess.
