It was only four years ago that we editorially insisted that Rep. John Nygren and fellow Finance Committee co-chair Alberta Darling had “shamed themselves,” following a brazen attempt, initiated in the JFC, to effectively gut the state’s long-standing openness law without so much as a public hearing or debate.
We need a new UW System President who truly understands the real economy and how education fits into it, and we won’t get one unless we have an intellectually nimble, truly diverse set of interests represented on the search committee.
Keep a snowmobile trail out of Blue Mound State Park.
There is no scientific evidence that cursive writing surpasses printing as it relates to childhood learning and development.
The data is now overwhelming on the positive effect in states that did so.
Milwaukee taxpayers would face a disastrous increase in property taxes, shaking down $640 million in additional annual spending to operate Milwaukee Public Schools, under a scenario contemplated by an ad hoc education referendum committee.
To say that spending in MPS isn’t keeping up with other nearby districts is simply not defensible.
Would mean a massive new federal investment in public schools.
GateHouse purchase of Gannett is dreadful news for local and national journalism.
New deals like the U.S.-Japan Trade Agreement or the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement currently before Congress are wins for our country, our state, and our neighbors.
