As of now there isn’t a single prominent candidate to challenge Jill Underly, the latest in a long line of bureaucratic hacks to badly run state government’s most rotten agency.
What is concerning is the growing acceptance that facts do not matter as the lies and perceptions heard from candidates with the money to repeat them ad nauseam are more important. Lies and perceptions we should note, created by candidates who wish to play to the basest of human emotions.
Given the overwhelming evidence against Donald Trump as man and candidate, including his doleful record as president — praising dictators, big tax cut for the wealthy, separating children at the border — the true winner of the recent election was voter incompetence spurred by a flood of propaganda.
In embracing Act 10 and Walker’s dubious legacy, Wisconsin Republicans are marching to a different beat than the rest of the country.
Another progressive judge rewrites statute.
Wisconsin has eased tax burdens, and created shortfalls for services..
Our large manufacturing sector thrives on international commerce and would suffer from a trade war.
What about coffee beans, climate change and tariffs?
Federal grants to states have soared over the years, and with the money has come conditions and requirements that have effectively transferred policy making power from state and local government elected officials to unelected bureaucrats at all levels.

That Trump will be able to claim credit for the programs, initiated by the man who beat him in 2020 and succeeded where Trump failed, is undoubtedly a matter of political luck.
Trumpers are claiming a highly debatable national mandate, but there is no debate about his “mandate” from Washington County voters. Donald Trump got 68.6% of the votes in Washington County, making it the reddest large county in the state. Waukesha County was close at 66.7%.
She needlessly ceded to Donald Trump two issues that voters consistently rated as high priority: the economy and immigration.
I won’t be the first writer to observe that the roles have been switched. In the 1960’s and 1970’s it was the left that saw our institutions as corrupt tools of oppression. Now it’s the hard-right.
Time and again, the Legislature has insisted that Lincoln Hills be closed. When presented with viable plans, not half-baked ones from left field, the Legislature has funded them.
