Milwaukee County War Memorial Center,
750 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive,
Milwaukee.

Dan Haumschild, Director of Education at Jewish Museum Milwaukee, will introduce Rotarians to the underlying importance of the Milwaukee Jewish Museum’s exhibit, DEGENERATE! Hitler’s War on Modern Art.

The Nazi reign of terror brutalized Europe between 1939 and 1945. It industrialized murder and transformed daily life into a horror show for millions of people. But before Auschwitz, WWII, and even Kristallnacht, the Third Reich launched an all-out assault on the culture of tolerance that had enabled the flourishing of creativity and ingenuity during the 1920s. In his talk, Dan explores the culture of violence cultivated by the Nazi regime and highlight how the dangerous admixture of censorship, propaganda, racial science, and conspiracy paved the way for a generalized acceptance of mass murder.

Rotary meetings are open to members, invited guests and media.
