Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) – the combined state chamber and manufacturers’ association – plans to host a Manufacturing Roundtable on Friday to showcase the state’s largest industry and celebrate Manufacturing Day. Each year, WMC recognizes October as Manufacturing Month and participates in the national celebration of Manufacturing Day on the first Friday of the month.
The roundtable discussion will feature members of the business community, UW-Madison College of Engineering faculty and UW students pursuing a career in manufacturing. Manufacturing contributes $68 billion to the state’s economy, and as the state’s largest industry, it employs one in six Wisconsin workers – the equivalent of nearly half a million jobs. The event hopes to highlight the important relationship between business and education in the face of a growing workforce shortage in the manufacturing sector.
