MILWAUKEE – On Thursday, Aug. 15, Wisconsin Native Vote will host over 1000 people from Native communities across Wisconsin for a tailgate and Milwaukee Brewers game to get out the Native vote. The tailgate will take place at 10:30 a.m. at American Family Field before the 1:10 p.m. ball game to encourage voting in the Nov. 5 election.
Starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Uecker Lot of American Family Field, the tailgate will feature the Menominee Nation’s Smokey Town drum and singing group, emcee Mark Denning (member of the Oneida Nation), and Urban Native Vote Organizer Anne Egan-Waukau (member of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin). At the beginning of the baseball game, a color guard composed of veterans carrying flags from each of the 11 Wisconsin tribes, will walk on the field to honor Native veterans.
“This tailgate is an opportunity for our many different tribal nations to come together to celebrate our shared love of voting and baseball,” said Anne Egan-Waukau, who is also the Communications Manager for Wisconsin Native Vote. “We will be able to reach new voters and make sure Native voices are heard at the polls this November. By voting, our communities are making a better future for the seventh generation.”
