September 23 @ 11:00 am

[Milwaukee, WI] – On any given day in the U.S., an estimated 122,000 adults are held for 23 hours a day for months, years, even decades in solitary confinement in prisons and jails, with many more held in solitary in youth and immigrant detention centers.

WISDOM leaders are holding a day of action on September 23rd at 11 am in front of Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility (MSDF) at 1015 N. 10th St. Milwaukee, WI 53233 to stand in solidarity with the National Religious Campaign Against Torture’s Together to End Solitary Campaign that raises attention on the 23rd of each month.

Directly impacted leaders and religious leaders will call for an end to the torture of solitary confinement. They will also emphasize the urgent need to completely depopulate Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility and close the state’s two oldest prisons in Waupun and Green Bay.

WISDOM will also be kicking off something new this month. There will be a meet up for a quick pre-action meeting by Zoom on the evening before the 23rd. We’ll offer prayers on behalf of those detained in solitary confinement. Testimonies from those who have survived solitary confinement will be presented. We will also be informed about the events scheduled for the next day. These meetings should only take up to twenty minutes. We invite you to the first thoughts, which will take place this Sunday, September 22, at 5:30 pm.
