Barnes elected 2nd vice-chair

Former state Rep. Mandela Barnes, D-Milwaukee, was elected 2nd vice-chair by unanimous consent after he was unopposed for the office. It’s the party’s No. 3 leadership post. Treasurer Randy Udell, who was unopposed for re-election, also was elected by unanimous consent. Outgoing 2nd Vice-chair Jeff Christensen noted Barnes’ election broke a string of three straight Jeffs holding the post. He also said the former lawmaker’s legal name is J. Mandela Barnes. “If he could change his name to Jeff Mandela Barnes, that would be perfect,” Christensen said.

The state Dem party is running digital ads for the next week slamming Wisconsin House GOP members for supporting the American Health Care Act. Walker fundraiser with Trump asking for at least $1,000

Gov. Scott Walker’s campaign is asking people to contribute at least $1,000 for the fundraiser he’s holding with President Trump. The June 13 reception includes four host levels, with those who pay $20,000 getting a VIP photo, preferred seating and participating in a special host reception. The invitation does not say where the event will take place. Walker’s has hinted that he’ll seek a third term next fall and said in a statement yesterday he appreciated Trump “showing his support for our bold conservative reforms” while he’s in Wisconsin. Milwaukee Co. Sheriff’s Office: Man dies in jump from Hoan Bridge

Contact: Fran McLaughlin (414) 278-5226 Milwaukee, WI – Today, at about 10:30 a.m., deputies responded to call about a man who had jumped off the Hoan Bridge, falling a distance of 45 feet onto concrete on the south end of the bridge.  Deputies began CPR until MFD emergency responders arrived and took over life-saving measures.  The subject was declared dead at 11:43 a.m. by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner. A witness who had been driving northbound on I-794 said the man pulled over into the distress lane, got out, and jumped from the bridge without pausing. Sheriff’s detectives are investigating.
