Speaker Vos Insulted Governor, Compared Senators to “Terrorists” in Interview
MADISON, WI – Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin today called upon Speaker Robin Vos to publicly and unequivocally apologize for comments he made on a Sunday talk show in which he insulted Governor Scott Walker and compared three Senators to “terrorists.” Vos made the comments during a discussion about last month’s budget agreement where Governor Walker and the senators negotiated an agreement to veto special interest giveaways in exchange for passing the budget.
Americans for Prosperity Wisconsin State Director Eric Bott made the following statement:
“We call on Speaker Robin Vos to apologize to Governor Walker and Senators Nass, Kapenga, and Stroebel immediately for his outrageous and offensive comments. Remarks like those Speaker Vos made over the weekend or his earlier text message threats to Governor Walker have no place in our public discourse. Instead of insulting legislators for fighting for their principles, Speaker Vos should explain to his caucus and the people of Wisconsin why he rammed through a special interest giveaway to the Public Finance Authority that would have enriched a few businessmen in California while leaving Wisconsin with all the risk. Governor Walker and these Senators did Wisconsin a great public service by stopping Speaker Vos’s policies like the PFA expansion from moving forward.”

Speaker Vos continues to target Governor Walker and senators who stand on principle with vitriol because they negotiated with each other to veto several special interest giveaways, exposed by AFP-WI and others. These giveaways were pushed by lobbyists, inserted into the budget with little or no public input, and shepherded through the Assembly by Speaker Vos.

These vetoes include the controversial expansion of the Public Finance Authority, which smacked of cronyism.
Over the weekend, the Racine Journal Times editorialized against giving the PFA new powers, writing “The tax dollars of Wisconsinites shouldn’t be going toward something which is of minimal or no value to anyone in the Badger State.”
Last month the Associated Press revealed that Speaker Vos threatened Governor Walker over these same vetoes.
