State Superintendent Tony Evers is advancing to the spring general election, but his opponent was not yet decided, the Associated Press reported.

The declaration from AP comes a half-hour after polls closed in the only statewide race on the spring primary ballot. Evers is facing off against John Humphries, a former Dodgeville administrator who worked at the Department of Public Instruction, and Lowell Holtz, the retired Whitnall superintendent.

Racine teacher Rick Melcher was also registered with the Elections Commission as a write-in candidate.
