Dane County Parks announced today that a portion of the Capital City Trail will temporarily be closed beginning on Tuesday, October 17th to replace a waterway culvert east of Longford Terrace in the City of Fitchburg. The project is anticipated to take approximately 2 weeks to complete, however, with the uncertainty of weather conditions it may take longer. A second press release will be sent out to notify trail users when the project has been completed.

The Capital City Trail will be closed in the City of Fitchburg from the intersection of the trail with the Ashbourne Pond spur trail and to the east end of the Longford Terrace underpass tunnel. Riders are responsible for assessing and determining the most appropriate detour route based on their individual bicycling skill level and destination and should adjust travel plans accordingly. Trail users should expect to encounter construction activity around the Longford Terrace underpass and plan for the west ramp to be closed for going west bound. The east ramp will be open for going east bound from Longford Terrace.

“The culvert being replaced is in very poor condition, thus due for replacement as part of our routine maintenance for the Capital City Trail,” said Dane County Parks Director Darren Marsh.

Signs giving warning to trail users of the closed section as they approach it will be posted at various locations along the trail in advance of the construction area. A map showing the closed section is also available on the Dane County Parks website at: https://www.countyofdane.com/lwrd/parks/ and the Dane County Parks Facebook page.
