GOP Looking For Another Option – Any Option – In Wisconsin Senate
In response to reports that Congressman Sean Duffy is “reconsidering a Senate campaign in Wisconsin,” Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesman David Bergstein released the following statement:
“Wisconsin Republicans are desperately looking for another candidate – any candidate – to run for Senate in 2018, even it means exacerbating an already divisive primary that’s bound to get costly. No matter who emerges, their party’s nominee will be dragged down by the GOP’s toxic health care agenda, their broken promises, and the intra-party brawls that are fracturing their party.”
On Congressman Duffy’s Extreme Record:
Duffy Voted For Obamacare Repeal Without A Replacement, Breaking A Campaign Promise. “When running, Duffy used very specific language to convey his position on federal health reforms, saying he would not vote for repeal unless ‘a better proposal was in place’ or ‘we had a bill that was going to work.’ He voted for the repeal, without a new proposal in place. Indeed, no such bill exists yet. It’s unclear what will be in a Republican alternative, when it will be voted on, and whether it will satisfy Duffy’s interest in saving the ‘good things’ in the legislation. Duffy Criticized Senate Conservatives For Not Wanting To Shut Down The Government To Defund Obamacare. “Appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Duffy once again hammered the likes of Cruz and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) for acknowledging earlier this week that a continuing resolution (CR) that defunds the health care law is probably doomed in the Democratic-controlled Senate. […] ‘They can hold a filibuster in the Senate if they want but they can’t hold the Senate conservatives together and they keep trying to put this fight in the house,’ he continued. ‘They can hold the Senate and have this fight as long as they want but they’re not willing to do it.’ Cruz suggested Thursdaythat he may mount a talking filibuster to prevent Obamacare from being funded.” [Talking Points Memo, 9/20/13]
Duffy Falsely Claimed That The Republican’s Obamacare Repeal Bill Didn’t Give Massive Tax Cuts To The Wealthy. “Duffy says the Republican replacement for Obamacare does not give massive tax cuts to wealthy Americans. The bill that some call ‘Trumpcare’ includes the repeal of tax hikes that specifically target the rich. Indeed, over 10 years, hundreds of billions of dollars in tax cuts would benefit only those earning $200,000 a year or more. We rate Duffy’s statement False.” [Politifact, 5/12/17]
