Governor Scott Walker announces that Peck Station Road, in the Town of Lafayette, Walworth County is the new addition to the Rustic Road program. Peck Station Road, between County A and County ES is the 120th Rustic Road in Wisconsin. There are now six Rustic Roads for travelers to enjoy in Walworth County.
Peck Station Road (R120), is a paved 2-mile long road. It was named after a Western Union Railroad stop, and is surrounded by farmland and quite colorful trees in the fall. A former railroad inn still exists as a private home along the scenic roadside. At the east side of its intersection with County A is the Troy Wildlife Area, offering many recreational opportunities, including hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, and hiking.
Wisconsin’s Rustic Roads Program was started more than 40 years ago to preserve scenic, lightly-traveled country roads for the leisurely enjoyment of hikers, bicyclists and motorists. Rustic Roads range from two miles to 37 miles in length and have a maximum speed limit of 45 miles per hour. Unique brown and yellow signs mark the routes of all officially designated Rustic Roads. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) oversees the Rustic Roads program; however, the roads remain under local government jurisdiction.
