Madison, Wisconsin – Today, Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Assistant Deputy Secretary Dave Anderson joined high school and technical college students for a Careers in Energy Week event at Moraine Park Technical College’s Beaver Dam campus. Governor Walker proclaimed October 16th -20th as Careers in Energy Week throughout Wisconsin to raise awareness of the careers available to students in the state’s energy industry.
“Under Governor Walker, Wisconsin is continuing to add jobs and increase opportunities for youth entering our growing workforce,” Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson said. “Careers in Energy Week provides an opportunity for students to learn firsthand about Wisconsin’s energy industry and how vital it is to our thriving economy.”
For this “Get into Energy” event, Moraine Park invited local students and their parents to visit the campus to see firsthand demonstrations of the energy courses and careers that are available in Wisconsin. Students will get the chance to participate in hands-on demonstration of a line mechanic career.
Since 2013, DWD has been a member of the Wisconsin Energy Workforce Consortium (WEWC) and shares its goal of identifying and developing programmatic solutions to meet the current and future workforce needs of the energy industry in Wisconsin.
The weeks’ events have been developed in partnership with the WEWC which consists of private and public organizations including Alliant Energy, We Energies, and Xcel Energy.
The WEWC is part of the national Center for Energy Workforce Development consortium, formed to help utilities work together to develop solutions to the coming workforce shortage in the utility industry.
