Madison, Wis. (October 13, 2017) – Edgewood College is pleased to announce it’s been awarded a grant of nearly $300,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice.

The funds will be used to support ongoing efforts to enhance prevention of, awareness of, and the response to sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking on campus.

In partnership with the Rape Crisis Center, Domestic Abuse Intervention Services, UnityPoint Meriter, and the Madison Police Department, Edgewood College will create a Coordinated Community Response Team. This group will enhance mandatory dating violence prevention education for all incoming students; conduct prevention and education programming; provide training for campus safety officers, hearing officers, faculty, and staff; and improve the cultural relevancy of Edgewood College’s response to sexual assault and dating violence for first-generation students, students of color, students with disabilities, and LGBTQ students.

“Edgewood College has a long-standing commitment to creating a learning environment free from violence of all types,” Dr. Scott Flanagan, President of Edgewood College, said. “We are grateful for the support of the Department of Justice and our community partners, and we are excited about the opportunity to advance our work in this important area.”

The grant, totaling $294,446, covers a three-year timeframe to implement the Coordinated Community Response Team and other related initiatives aimed at making Edgewood College as safe as possible for all students, faculty and staff.
