End Citizens United (ECU) today announced its latest round of House and Senate endorsements for the 2018 cycle led by Rep. Mark Pocan. Pocan is committed to fighting the corrosive and corrupting influence of money in politics.
“Congressman Pocan is fighting against the rigged system in Washington, where too many politicians are in the pockets of special interests and write the rules to benefit their mega-donors. He will continue to fight for reform to end the outsized influence Big Money has on our democracy,” said Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United. “We’re proud to back Congressman Pocan’s campaign, and our grassroots members are ready to roll up their sleeves and help him win re-election.”
A robust reform agenda is critical to winning support from voters. A recent study shows that 90% of Americans believe special interests are running the government, and research conducted by ECU found that two out of every three voters believe the amount of money in politics affects their everyday lives. A money-in-politics reform message has been proven to help move voters, particularly among Independents and unaffiliated voters.
End Citizens United will connect Pocan’s campaign with its nearly 17,500 local grassroots members in the district, as well as its 380,000 small-dollar national donors. This cycle, ECU has already raised more than $2 million for its endorsed candidate from hundreds of thousands of grassroots small-dollar donors. For the 2018 cycle, ECU is projected to raise $35 million with an average donation of $14.
The full list of endorsed candidates in addition to Representative Pocan includes: Senators Claire McCaskill (MO) and Mazie Hirono (HI), and Representatives Ruben Gallego (AZ-07), Barbara Lee (CA-13), Eric Swalwell (CA-15), Al Lawson (FL-05), Val Demings (FL-10), Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08), Katherine Clark (MA-05), Grace Meng (NY-06), Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08), Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15), and Peter Welch (VT-AL).
ECU is an entirely grassroots-funded organization dedicated to electing members of Congress who will fight to overturn Citizens United and pass meaningful campaign finance reform.
