Free speech has been challenged on college campuses and elsewhere nationwide, resulting in violent protests and personal attacks. What is the role of government to protect free speech? Who defines hate speech? Is there a need for safe spaces? See attached flyer for more info on the scope of the discussion.
This forum will help citizens frame and understand the national debate on free speech. It will illustrate, with the voices of two experts on the Constitution, Judge James Troupis and UW–Law School Professor Anuj Desai, and moderator – UW Political Science Professor Ryan Owens, that civil dialogue on this important issue is possible. This event is sponsored by The MacIver Institute, the American Constitution Society – Madison Lawyer Chapter, and the RPDC. There is no charge for this event.
This event is approved by the State Bar for 1.5 CLE credits.
