Milwaukee – Governor Scott Walker joined Komatsu Mining Corporation, Komatsu Ltd., and local leaders today in announcing the acquisition of Joy Global by Komatsu and rebranding of the company’s corporate headquarters.
“We applaud Komatsu’s decision to stay here in Milwaukee and invest in our economy,” Governor Walker said. “The company’s decision to expand here is more proof Wisconsin is working. Our economic future is bright, but there’s still work to be done. To ensure Wisconsin continues moving forward, our budget proposal invests in top priorities like student success, rewarding work, and accountable government so our state remains prosperous for generations to come.”
In April of this year, Komatsu Limited publicly announced the acquisition of Joy Global Inc., a manufacturer of equipment for the mining of energy, industrial, and hard rock minerals. As a result of the acquisition, Komatsu changed the name of their subsidiary, Joy Global Inc., to Komatsu Mining Corporation. This marks the largest acquisition in Komatsu history and signifies marked growth in the company’s mining offerings, allowing them to expand from surface mining to a full line of mining solutions.
Komatsu will keep all their current locations in Milwaukee and further hopes to bring additional job opportunities to Wisconsin.
Established in 1921, Komatsu Ltd. is a diversified provider of industrial-use products and services. The company is based in Tokyo, Japan and is an international leader in construction and mining equipment. On top of this, Komatsu also has business dealings in industrial machinery and vehicles, logistics, electronics, and other solutions-based operations.
Before joining Komatsu, Joy Global had 135 locations in 20 countries, with 10,000 employees. With the acquisition, Komatsu’s total employee count comes to nearly 60,000 worldwide.
