PLATTEVILLE – Governor Scott Walker today joined UW-Platteville officials and students to highlight the Capital Budget’s investment in Sesquicentennial Hall, a new engineering building to be built on the University’s campus.
Funding for the new facility was added to the Capital Budget by the Joint Finance Committee following Governor Walker’s July announcement that Foxconn, the world’s largest electronics manufacturing services provider, will invest $10 billion in Wisconsin by 2020.
“Expansion of the University’s engineering facilities will help address Foxconn and other Wisconsin employers’ high demand for trained engineers,” said Governor Walker. “Students will gain the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in career and life. And Wisconsin will maintain the highly-skilled, dependable workforce it is known for.”
UW-Platteville graduates the second largest number of engineers in the UW System, with nearly half of the current student population enrolled in the school’s College of Engineering. Seventy-six percent of the University’s highly-skilled graduates tend to remain in Wisconsin.
The new building will cost an estimated $55 million and add nearly 77,000 gross square feet to the UW-Platteville campus. Once complete, students will gain access to dedicated spaces for specialized computing, equipment and service, research labs, manufacturing, and project making as well as flexible spaces for collaborative learning.
