MADISON – Governor Scott Walker issued Executive Order #253 lowering flags to half-staff in memory of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City, Washington, D.C., and United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. In addition to his executive order, Governor Walker released the following statement:

It’s been sixteen years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

Each year, Americans stand united in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon – as well as the heroes on United Airlines Flight 93 who gave their lives to prevent further loss of life. We also honor our brave first responders who rushed into chaos and confusion, risking and sacrificing their lives to save those in need.

Today, we remember and honor those who lost their lives, and send our prayers to their families. We will never forget their sacrifice.

Flags of the United States and Wisconsin are ordered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset today, September 11, 2017.
