| Madison – Governor Scott Walker today praised U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt for stating, “The days of coercive federalism are over,” and for his commitment to building a new relationship between the states and the federal government.
In a recent letter to Governor Walker regarding the “Clean Power Plan,” Administrator Pruitt stated he is looking forward to working with state experts and local communities “to improve our environment and bolster the economy in a manner that is respectful of and consistent with the rule of law.” “The Obama Power Plan was bad policy for our state and our country,” Governor Walker said. “We applaud President Trump and Administrator Pruitt for beginning a new relationship with the states by rolling back these costly regulations that would have cost many jobs, increased electricity prices for working families, and added billions of dollars in regulations. We have proven in Wisconsin that you can protect and enhance the environment while supporting our economy.” In October 2015, Governor Walker authorized Attorney General Brad Schimel to join 26 other states in challenging the Power Plan to stop the EPA’s unlawful overreach into state authority. In February 2016, the United States Supreme Court stayed implementation of the Clean Power Plan, and on March 28, 2017, President Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to begin the process of rolling back the Clean Power Plan.
