State Rep. Dale Kooyenga says he’s not running for U.S. Senate next year, saying he can “best serve our Country” by working at the state level.

Kooyenga, who had been weighing a bid against Dem U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, in a statement this morning praised the other GOP candidates in the race, saying they have “impressive backgrounds, convictions and ability to serve Wisconsin and our great country.”

“After considerable thought and prayer it is clear I can best serve our Country and principles by fighting for our Republic at the state level, continuing to serve in the US Army Reserves, working in the private sector and most importantly spending time with my wife and four children,” the Brookfield Republican said.

Former Marine Kevin Nicholson is the only announced Republican in the race. Others, including state Sen. Leah Vukmir, R-Brookfield, and 2012 Senate candidate Eric Hovde, are also considering a bid.
