Madison Teachers, Inc. (MTI) has endorsed Attorney Jill Karofsky for Dane County Judge. The non-partisan election is Tuesday, April 4.

“Our members were impressed with Attorney Karofsky’s experience in the Dane County District Attorney’s office and her commitment to criminal justice reform,” said Doug Keillor, Executive Director of MTI.

“It is an honor to be endorsed by teachers and educators throughout Dane County,” Attorney Karofsky said. “My children attend Madison Public Schools and I know firsthand the commitment educators have to students, our schools, and our community. As we work together to improve and reform our criminal justice system and reduce racial disparity, we need to expand restorative justice initiatives and do all we can to give our young people the educational opportunities and the services they need to succeed. Teachers and educators are important partners and I look forward, as a Dane County Judge, to working collaboratively with them and other stakeholders.”

MTI joins the more than 600 attorneys, elected officials, judges, and community leaders who are publicly supporting Karofsky. The long and growing list includes Judge Everett Mitchell, Judge Maryann Sumi, and more 40 other past and current judges; Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney; District Attorney Ismael Ozanne; and former Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle and Jessica Doyle.

Madison Teachers Inc. represents over 4,500 members including: Teachers, Educational Professionals and Para Professionals, Educational Assistants, Substitute Teachers, Supportive Educational Employees (Clerical and Technical) and School Security Assistants who are employed by the Madison Metropolitan School District.
