The announcement from the United States Air Force and U.S. Senator Tammy
Baldwin that Truax Field and the 115th Fighter Wing is a top choice to house and support the Air National Guard F-35 aircraft is wonderful news, not only for Madison, but for the entire area. We await results from an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) but are confident there is more good news to come.
These aircraft will maintain the long-term economic stability of the field for decades to come. The men and women employed at the facility are our friends and neighbors whose children attend our schools. The 750 Guard members and the over 400 employees of the facility are valued members of our community and I am delighted that their employment future is secure.
I know this has been a long process, and I thank the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce for their leadership in this campaign as well as the Badger Air Community Council (BACC), the Truax family, other community leaders, and residents who have shown support for this effort. Today’s announcement is truly an early holiday gift for many families, and for the entire area.
