Paul Ryan’s Democratic challenger says his plan will raise taxes on most Americans and encourage corporations to ship American jobs overseas
Today, the House of Representatives voted on a tax bill that, for the first time in American history, was passed without bipartisan support or public hearings.
Cathy Myers, a teacher and single mom challenging Paul Ryan, said, “Speaker Ryan wants to increase the deficit by $1.5 trillion to fund an unprecedented transfer of wealth from the working class to corporations and the richest families that gives big business an incentive to ship more American jobs overseas.”
Myers noted that the few benefits for working families included in the Republican tax plan are temporary while tax cuts for corporations are permanent.
“Paul Ryan is deceiving his constituents and the middle class nationwide by claiming that they will receive a tax cut when more than half of all Americans will actually see a tax increase by 2027 if this bill becomes law,” Myers said.
Myers concluded by warning that the Republican tax bill undermines our health insurance market: “If the individual mandate is eliminated, 13 million more Americans would be uninsured, which would cause premiums for everyone else to skyrocket and threaten coverage for more than 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions.”
