Voters send message of support for public schools and for public officials with integrity
MADISON, Wis. — The following are the statements of One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross on the results of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction primary election:
“The message from voters tonight is that they support our public schools and want someone with integrity to lead the Department of Public Instruction.
“Both John Humphries and Lowell Holtz have flip-flopped on education issues and pandered for the support of the right wing money machine that wants more of our tax dollars going to their less accountable private voucher schools and publicly endorsed Donald Trump’s manifestly unqualified pick for Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos.
“And both revealed their willingness to jettison ethics and commitment to public service at the slightest hint of political advantage when they, at the behest of as yet unnamed ‘business leaders,’ sat down to discuss a sleazy and possibly illegal $500,000 election bribe in exchange for one of them supporting the other.”
