The super PAC backing Republican Kevin Nicholson for U.S. Senate released its first TV ad today, a spot that calls for the former Marine a “true conservative.”

Nicholson, who was president of the national College Dems, has faced questions about his political conversion since getting into the race.

The Solutions for Wisconsin spot opens with shots of Nicholson in combat fatigues overseas as the narrator notes he was a Marine officer in Iraq who completed 100 combat missions and volunteered in Afghanistan, where he won a Bronze Star.

The narrator then says he “came home to Wisconsin a true conservative.” The narrator calls Nicholson an “outsider ready to fight for conservative values in the Senate.”

“Conservative Republican Kevin Nicholson reporting for duty,” the narrator says to close the spot.

The liberal One Wisconsin Now said the buy is $80,000 on broadcast and $35,000 on cable Oct. 19-25. It includes the Green Bay, Wausau, La Crosse and Milwaukee broadcast markets, according to the group.

A Solutions for Wisconsin spokesman said the buy will be more than that, but would not go into details.
