PSC’s Nowak says Walker providing ‘unprecedented level’ of broadband grants

Public Service Commission Chair Ellen Nowak said today Gov. Scott Walker’s budget would provide an “unprecedented level of grant funding” for broadband expansion.
But Joint Finance Committee members indicated there’s still a long way to go in getting many parts of the state connected.
Sen. Sheila Harsdorf, R-River Falls, asked Nowak how the state can encourage providers to serve smaller communities in the state. Nowak said the agency’s broadband expansion grants help make that an economically viable decision for service providers.
Walker, she added, has made the issue a “fundamental priority” ...
