Madison – Today the State Assembly will vote on AB 499, a mining bill that would repeal the “Prove it First” provision that ensures long term environmental safeguards for mining projects in Wisconsin. Rep. Anderson released the following statement:

“We all want a thriving economy that utilizes everything that the state of Wisconsin has to offer the world. That’s why the acid mining bill is so dangerous. Mining will provide short term jobs to parts of Wisconsin that need development. There’s no disagreement here in the legislature. But acid mining endangers the tourism industry, our farmers, and our water. The clean-up costs for these kinds of mines are massive, and once the ore is mined so too are the jobs. Northern Wisconsin needs investment and infrastructure, not get rich quick schemes. AB 499 sends Wisconsin backwards.”
