La Crosse legislator voices importance of job creation, opposes bad deal for Wisconsin tax-payers

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin State Assembly will be voting on the Foxconn bill today, deciding whether to commit $3 billion tax-payer dollars to the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer. Ahead of the vote, Rep. Jill Billings (D-La Crosse) released the following statement:

“The Foxconn deal would set up the state for half a century worth of debt and roll back environmental regulations,” Rep. Billings said. “Instead of paying a foreign company with a dubious record of following through on deals, the $3 billion would be better used to fund our schools, fix our roads and invest in homegrown start-up businesses.”

“It is simply not prudent to give away $3 billion to a foreign company without doing so much as performing the necessary environmental and fiscal impact analyses, nor listening to our constituents,” Rep. Billings continued. “Only 10 percent of people surveyed in my district fully support the Foxconn deal and virtually everyone at this week’s constituent listening session opposed it, yet it is being pushed through the Assembly at lightning speed.”
