Madison, WI—Representative Rob Brooks (R-Saukville) praised the work of the Joint Finance Committee’s (JFC) recommendation to abolish Wisconsin’s Rental Unit Energy Efficiency Program.

The Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) oversees the rental weatherization program, which requires rental properties to meet specific energy efficiency standards prior to their sale. DSPS asked that the program be removed from its 2017-19 budget and Governor Walker included this request in his budget.

“This program’s standards are broad and never successfully met DSPS’ revenue goals. The provisions became outdated as current building codes include minimum energy efficiency standards. I am elated to see JFC working to make state agencies more efficient,” said Representative Rob Brooks.
