Madison – Today, Governor Walker announced his appointment of former Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) Secretary Lon Roberts to the Public Service Commission (PSC). Rep. Dave Considine (D-Baraboo) issued the following statement in response:
“As a legislator representing the Driftless area, the PSC has allowed a number of power lines to cut through my district. We all know the significant impact these projects can have on our environment, especially in an area so rich in natural resources,” said Rep. Considine.
“My constituents have tried for years to voice their concerns about these projects to the PSC and to the companies that are responsible for constructing these lines. But time and time again, our citizens are overruled in favor of what’s best for the transmission companies. The appointment of the former DFI Secretary to the PSC tells me that Governor Walker and his administration are less concerned with responsibly managing Wisconsin’s energy needs and more worried about helping large private corporations make money off our natural resources,” Considine added.
“I still believe that by keeping the lines of communication open between citizens and our government, we can balance our state’s growing needs with its existing resources,” stated Considine. “But this appointment speaks volumes, and I hope our citizens’ voices will not continue to be drowned out.”
