Madison- Representative Mary Felzkowski (R-Irma) issued the following statement on the Governor’s K-12 Proposal for the 2017-19 Biennial Budget:

“I applaud Governor Walker’s focus on rural districts in his K-12 education proposal. The work of the Rural Initiative, the Rural Task Force, and my rural colleagues has certainly increased more awareness for issues that particularly impact rural districts. Our rural schools face unique challenges including recruiting qualified teachers and preparing students to enter an ever-changing workforce. We need to make sure the state is providing opportunity for every child to succeed, regardless of location.

“I could not be more excited about the Governor’s increased investment in the Fabrication Laboratories Grant Program. Fab Labs use innovative teaching techniques that truly help students with a broad spectrum of learning abilities. These labs have been so successful and popular that we’re also seeing a really positive ripple effect for fab lab communities. This increased funding will take great steps toward expanding that impact statewide.

“I look forward to working with education stakeholders, the Governor, and my legislative colleagues on these education proposals as we continue to move our education system forward.”

Representative Felzkowski represents the 35th Assembly District which includes communities in Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Oneida, and Shawano Counties.
