“Today, I am announcing my intention to work with fellow legislators and good government advocates to criminalize the sordid practice of trading taxpayer-funded jobs for campaign support.
“Last week it was reported that candidates for State Superintendent, John Humphries and Lowell Holtz, playing the parts of mob capos, agreed to a ‘sit-down’ orchestrated by an unnamed businessman, during which they discussed quid pro quo job offers and school takeovers. Holtz, in entertaining this corrupt bargain with this then-opponent, engaged in blatantly unethical behavior. If this conduct isn’t already illegal, it should be.
“As I move forward with the crafting of this legislation, I welcome any and all input from Wisconsin citizens who have an interest in freeing our elections of corrupt behavior and corrupting influences.”
