Madison, Wisconsin – Assistant Assembly Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton), the ranking-Democrat on the Assembly Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs, released the following statement after following today’s Joint Legislative Audit Committee hearing on the Audit Bureau’s comprehensive audit of the Veterans Home at King:
“It’s unfortunate that the professionalism of the staff at the Audit Bureau wasn’t matched or exceeded by DVA Secretary Zimmerman today. Secretary Zimmerman’s bureaucratic non-answers and seeming preference to dive into personal spats with lawmakers instead of addressing the specifics of his department’s progress at the King Home was disappointing. I hope the secretary and his staff will produce requested documents in a timely manner and be much better prepared the next time his department is asked to testify before a legislative committee.”
