Madison, WI – State Representative Dianne Hesselbein nominated Middleton resident Alex Haunty for the 2017 Hometown Hero Award. The Hometown Heroes program seeks to identify and recognize individuals from around the state who give of themselves to make a difference in our communities and in the lives of those around them. These are people whose care and concern for others causes them to unconditionally intervene, mentor or lend a hand wherever needed. Alex received the Hometown Hero Award Thursday, September 14 during a full floor session of the State Assembly.

“I have the pleasure of knowing Alex and the things he is passionate about. Alex loves painting and creating wonderful pieces of original art. As an artist he has become a hero in our community by creating opportunities for others to enjoy the arts as well,” said Hesselbein, who represents western Dane County including Middleton.

By using the proceeds from his paintings, Alex provides tickets to Broadway performances to young people with cognitive disabilities. Alex Haunty’s Theater and Arts Fund promotes access to the arts for people with disabilities through an integrated arts community model. Alex’s non-profit works to provide special experiences to premier Broadway shows, and develop workshops and performance opportunities in art, music and theater.
