Madison, WI—2017 Wisconsin Act 49, authored by Representative Cody Horlacher (R-Mukwonago) and co-authored by Senator Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg), was signed into law yesterday by Governor Walker. This bill repeals unnecessary regulations and streamlines the overall process of bus purchasing.

Previously, Department of Transportation regulations prohibited the purchase of school buses older than 5 years from outside the state. Working with local stakeholders and school districts, Horlacher created a bill to cut this unnecessary regulation. The bill does not change any safety standards, it simply allows purchasers to competitively bid for buses

Representative Horlacher is confident this law, “rolls back regulation and puts real money back into our school districts that can instead be used to educate our kids.”
