Rep. Kitchens Statement on Passage of Clean Water Access Bill

Madison—State Representative Joel Kitchens (R-Sturgeon Bay) released the following statement after the Senate voted to pass his Clean Water Access bill:

“I am incredibly pleased with the passage of my Clean Water Access bill on the floor of the Senate earlier today. This bill will allow families with contaminated wells or failing wastewater treatment systems to receive low-interest or interest-free loans from their county to rebuild or replace their wells or treatment systems. Every citizen deserves to have access to clean water, free from harmful bacteria and chemicals.

“This is another important step forward in addressing the water contamination issue in Wisconsin’s rural areas so that all families have access to clean water. I would like to thank my Senate author, Senator Rob Cowles (R-Green Bay) for his dedication to this issue. Additionally, I would like to recognize the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters, rural Land and Water Conservation Departments and local governments for their support and enthusiasm for this bill.

“I am eager for Governor Walker to sign this bipartisan bill into law and provide Wisconsin families with the much-needed relief of knowing they have access to clean water in their own homes.
